Strathmore Backyard Theater – Recess Monkey

Perks of a job at Strathmore:

  1. Attending billions of weddings. Okay, not literally billions. But millions, at least.
  2. Attending children’s concerts.
  3. Attending children’s concerts with free snow cones.

Apparently, snow cones are properly spelled “Sno Kones,” which seems to lead to some pretty contentious debates. We can save that for another day.

Anyway, parents: Strathmore’s upcoming Backyard Theater schedule can be found here, and check out Seattle elementary school teacher band Recess Monkey here! Their newest album is entitled “In Tents,” so obviously I liked them before I heard them.

Tap Tap Revolution

I had the pleasure of shooting the wonderful Soundworks Tap Factory show this past week! This was my third time photographing those fancy feet and I believe their shows get better and better, if I do say so myself. I tap tapped for about six months at the age of 5.

Things to think about:

1) More dances should include drumlines. Soundworks got it right.

2) How do they move their feet so fast?

3) See Soundworks’ last show here! And the show before that, here!

Bonus Penn Ballet!

I wasn’t planning on taking too many pictures at Alex’s actual performance but I was too excited about stage lighting! Couldn’t help myself.

Congrats to Penn Ballet on a wonderful show! Check out their rehearsal here.

Variations from the Nutcracker Ballet

When I met wonderful housemate-turned-roommate-turned-neighbor Alex, she was starting Penn Ballet with two friends from a Scandinavian club on campus.  Now they’re teaching weekly classes and putting on full-blown productions every semester! I was a prima ballerina once, and then kindergarten got in the way.

Here are some shots from their rehearsal – can’t wait for the real thing next week!

West Philly Story

Penn’s Soundworks Tap Factory and West Philly Swingers teamed up for a fall collaboration show!  It turns out that other people know how to dance, but the jury’s still out on my dancing skills.
